How cute is this...? Can you share with us what kind of guidelines you will be using to prepare your "huggers?" People sometimes have issues with personal space and I know you have discussed this. How does the invitation for a hug get extended? I hope you post pictures after the event, or video!

Hi Barbara,

We ALWAYS ask people respectfully, with open arms, if they would like a hug before we get too close to them. Some people are reluctant to be hugged and others wholeheartedly join in for a warm hug. We don't take it personally when they say no.....

Here's our request of the Volunteers:

ETIQUETTE:  These five simple, yet important rules make hugging a wonderful experience: Rule #1 Always Ask Permission First Rule #2 Honor Personal Space Boundaries (keep your hands on their upper back) Rule #3 A Hug Is A Gentle Embrace- not the Heimlich! Rule #4 – Make it a Heart hug. (Raise your left arm and invite them to raise their left arm, so you meet heart to heart) Rule #5 – Personal Hygiene (Please ensure you have showered or bathed prior to attending a Free Hugs Event. Limit yourself to wearing deodorant only, no perfume or fragrances.)

When we think about our shadow self, images of aspects of ourselves that we don’t like jump to mind, and most often we shy away from dealing with them, let alone embracing them. But the shadow also contains aspects of ourselves that we feel good about, that for whatever reason, we also choose to suppress. It is common knowledge that we all share the desire to live more fully, with our whole heart in an authentic and fearless manner. It is even trendy to live on our ‘growing edge.’ This is only possible if we embrace all of who are. The healing experience of being fully alive, can only happen through expressing our whole self. There are many ways to welcome the shadow or coax it into the light of acceptance. One way is through play and humor where we get to take ourselves lightly and practice that we are not our thoughts, our body, not even our emotional cellular memory, but so much more. When we play with our mask consciousness we move from what formerly has us divided against ourselves into a healthy objectivity that supports us in coming home to our authentic selves. @ the Pandosy Peace Centre 2490 Pandosy St. (corner of Morrison) Love Offering Appreciated
